Sarah J. Maas is expanding her popular ACOTAR book series in 2026 and 2027. Fans have waited a long time for news about the series' future. The author is now planning a large, interconnected story that will span several new volumes.

Brief summary

  • Book 6 is released on 27 October 2026.
  • Book 7 is released shortly after, on 12 January 2027.
  • Elain Archeron is assumed to be the protagonist in the new instalments.
  • The date for Book 8 is not confirmed.

Publication dates for the books

Maas is releasing part six and seven with only three months between them, and that is because the events in the books are very closely linked. The first part arrives in October 2026 and the next part follows in January 2027. An eighth book then concludes this chapter of the series.

The protagonist in the new books is assumed to be Elain Archeron, Azriel or Lucien. Elain Archeron is the middle sister and the one we have followed the least so far. In the books she has the role of a Seer, a person with magical powers who can see into the future. Elain's love life is debated by fans, and the focus is on which of Lucien and Azriel she will choose.

The order

Unlike Maas's Throne of Glass series, where you can vary the reading order a little, the ACOTAR series should be read in a specific sequence. The first three books focus on Feyre, while the fourth book serves as a bridge to the new stories. From the fifth book, A Court of Silver Flames, the focus shifts to other characters.
