What to expect
Improved equipment tracking
Garmin Connect gains more ways to log equipment used during training and activities. You can track statistics such as distance, hours and days in use. This applies to running shoes, skis, bike parts and wheelchairs, among others.
You can also add notes and photos, which makes it easier to keep track of each item. With gear collections you can group multiple equipment items and link them to the same activity.
Garmin is also adding a larger database with more shoe brands and bike models. For some activities it is possible to assign equipment automatically, making logging less manual.
On compatible smartwatches you can view equipment statistics directly on your wrist. A progress bar shows how close the equipment is to the end of its lifespan.
New features for planning and sport
Course planner in Garmin Connect helps you plan a route ahead of a race. You can add cut-off times, rest plans, checkpoints and aid stations. The finished route is then shown on a compatible smartwatch.
Sports scores lets users follow their favourite teams across 15 different leagues. When the watch is connected to a smartphone, live scores, fixtures and tables are displayed directly on the wrist.
The feature is aimed at users who want both training data and quick access to sports information. It relies on the same watch-to-Garmin Connect link as the other updates in the package.
Training, health and everyday features
Mixed session lets you record multiple activities within the same workout rather than saving them separately. It is suitable, for example, for training sessions with several parts.
Garmin Fitness Coach creates personalised training plans based on your training history, fitness and background information. The plans include various cardio sessions based on time and heart rate, optional strength sessions and over 25 activity types.
On the health side users get sleep alignment, which shows how well sleep follows the circadian rhythm. You can also log habits such as caffeine and alcohol directly on the watch and see how they affect sleep, stress and HRV.
Garmin is also adding features for truck drivers and accessibility. This includes spoken time and health data from the watch face, hourly reminders and colour display options for different types of colour blindness.
