Questions and answers about dishwashers

The lifespan is mainly determined by which models you have and how often it’s used. A good dishwasher should last at least 10 years, but bear in mind that you may need to replace parts that wear out along the way.

Be sure to choose a model that is the right size for your kitchen. If you need an integrated model that blends into your cabinets, go for that. Important things to consider are noise level, which washing programs are available, if there is a drying function and a cleaning program. If you want to be able to run the dishes when the electricity is at its cheapest, choose a model that has a delayed start.

Clean the dishwasher at regular intervals, fill it according to instructions and don’t overdose with detergent. Make sure the spray arms can rotate freely and without hitting anything, clean filters and use dishwasher salt if necessary.

Yes, in the long run you get cleaner dishes and less water and energy are consumed. In addition, you get more time to spare for other, more important things that need to be done.

Clean the dishwasher at least four times a year. How often depends on how often you use the dishwasher and how much food remains left on the plates.

Pick out all loose parts and wash them under warm water in the sink. Feel free to use a small amount of hand washing detergent to remove residues and grease more easily. The spray arms must be checked so that the small water holes aren’t blocked. Use a toothpick to clean the holes if there is limescale in the way. Wipe off any residue on the inside with a dishcloth and also the outside. If the dishwasher has a cleaning program, you can add a special cleaning tablet and get it sparkling clean.

Yes, you can run the dishwasher at night. If you have a model with a delayed start, you set it to run when the electricity price is at its lowest, which is normally at night. Since it’s extra risky to operate electrical appliances at night, it’s good to have both a fire alarm and a water alarm on hand in case an accident should occur.
