Works very well. Been running for 5 days about without problems. I like the finish on the outer shell. Slightly matt and rough. It should not be visible to me but just work so it fits perfectly. Relatively easy to install and get to work. Very easy to mount the hard drives. Extra plus to send with extra screws in addition to the 8pcs needed. Plus for distance for SSD (and extra screws for this too). Mounted 2pcs 6TB HDD (HGST Deskstar NAS v2 HDN726060ALE614 128MB 6TB) and it took the whole night to build RAID 1. But you have no hurry ... Can say that I am completely satisfied with DSM (DiskStation Manager - Synology's OS). There are lots of features and quite a few useful apps / applications for mobile and PC as well. Easy to understand from the beginning. A cool and smart feature you can set (in DSM) is regular S.M.A.R.T test. It tests the HDD for errors and how the health is and emails you (if you wish) the result. Got my first test result by mail today (1/6). 0 bad :-) Bought this instead of DS218 (DS218: + 1GB RAM and +1 USB) because it is the same processor but cheaper. There is a lot of "how to do" and set things up on Synology's website and on other pages. Just search (tip is to search on other NAS from Synology, type DS218 because they run the same DSM. Now it should be backed up / synced and make homepages. Can recommend it! 2019-03-20 an update: It has been a good constant since 2018-06. Have a website on it and run backups. It's still fast. Haven't had any strange things with it. I think the interface is good. And have no problem logging on to it from outside. Recommend Synology and this still.

Unclear whether it depends on my ignorance or the fact that it is difficult to find sensible documentation to prepare. Bought my DS218Play and two 6TB hard disks that I installed before I started the device. Of course, chose to install DSM as suggested. When the installation was complete, NAS was configured with Raid 1, which I would not have asked for. So, just shut-off and wipe out one disk. Now I hope I can add disk number 2 after installation and get my desired space of 12 TB. Surely a great NAS, but the installation process is completely useless because you can not choose how to install the disks. Appears possibly with additional complaints after one-time testing. Currently, it's only 5 stars. Update: After a few days of use, it returns from this "user-friendly" NAS. The interface is a nightmare also for a somewhat experienced user and some things simply can not be solved even though it's going to go. Was able to change my two 6TB disks to a 12TB because it could not get either RAID0 or JOBD. Two hours went to try to configure the device for external access. My router is not in Synology's list and I can easily open 40's of the router manually. I recommend this product only to people who are looking for a heavy headache and several sleepless nights. Changes my rating from 5 stars to 1.

Network engineering skills are required to have a chance to utilize the functions properly. It's possible to get the most out to end (JBOD functionality I think is very good), but it's trial and error that applies. This is not least noticeable on the forums online that are full of users seeking answers. Issues I suffered from: * Starts that sticks without error codes * Risky mobile apps * Requires creation of accounts that are not used to anything * Hard-to-understand web interface without documentation. * Plex transcoding is not supported despite high processing power. * Encryption does not work with NFS
