14 Games We're Excited About in 2024

We're in for a fantastic year of gaming in 2024, with many big releases on the horizon. How about setting sail across the seven seas as a pirate captain in Skull & Bones, or reliving childhood memories with Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered? Here's our top list of the biggest and most anticipated launches of 2024.

Alone in the Dark

Releasing on March 20th

Alone in the Dark is a psychological horror game and a reinterpretation of the original 1992 game of the same name. Once again, we step into the shoes of private detective Edward Carnby, exploring Derceto Mansion alongside Emily Hartwood.

The game presents an entirely new story penned by horror writer Mikael Hedberg. Set in the 1920s, it brings Lovecraftian horror elements to the American South.

The story in Alone in the Dark revolves around the disappearance of Emily's uncle. She enlists Edward's help to find him, facing the horrors lurking within Derceto Manor.

Choose to play as either Edward or Emily, solving intricate puzzles and battling the dark creatures hiding in the shadows.

The protagonists are voiced by David Harbour and Jodie Comer, two heavyweights in Hollywood known for their roles in Killing Eve, Free Guy, and Stranger Things, among others.

Alone in the Dark will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Ark 2

Releasing in 2024

Ever dreamed of riding a T-Rex? While experiencing it in real life isn't possible, playing Ark 2 at least gives you the chance to try it in a video game.

Ark 2 is the official sequel to Ark: Survival Evolved. The story picks up after the fifth and final expansion, Genesis: Part 2, which was released in 2021. We don't know much about the game's plot yet, but it's clear that actor Vin Diesel plays a significant role in the story.

The setting of the game has been completely revamped, and the combat system has been reworked. Ark 2 has adopted a more Souls-like approach to combat, with brand new movement abilities allowing players to free climb, glide, swing, and parkour through the game world.

Unsurprisingly, dinosaurs are a big part of Ark 2, just as they were in Ark: Survival Evolved. We don't know exactly which ones will be featured yet, but we've at least seen Velociraptors, Tyrannosaurus, and Pterodactylus in concept images from the game studio.

Ark 2 will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Game of the Month 2023 – Our Top Picks

The past year in gaming was absolutely fantastic. We've spent countless hours on games like Alan Wake 2, Dead Space Remake, and Baldur's Gate 3. Don't miss our top list of the most anticipated games for 2023!

Check out the full list here! (We know, Skull & Bones was delayed again. But on February 16th, we finally get to play pirates!)

Assassin’s Creed Codename: Red

Releasing in 2024

The next major installment in the Assassin's Creed series is set to release in 2024. Currently without an official name, it's simply referred to as "Codename: Red". The game is set during the Sengoku period in Japan, offering players the choice to play as either a male samurai or a female shinobi.

Like its predecessors, the world is open and free for players to explore. It's unclear if the map will be as vast as the one in Valhalla, or more contained like in Mirage. What we do know is that the game will be part of Ubisoft's new gaming platform, Assassin's Creed Infinity, which aims to connect all the games through a live service.

After the comparatively underwhelming Mirage, which received a lukewarm reception from players, we're hoping that Codename: Red will be a more positive experience. We're looking forward to silently running across rooftops as a ninja, with only the shadows for company.

The game will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Releasing on February 29th

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second game in the trilogy that constitutes a comprehensive reimagining of the original 1997 game.

The game picks up after the story in the first game, "Remake", featuring an entirely new world, new characters to meet, and more unique combat combinations. Rebirth is larger and more open, with many expansive areas to explore.

The main character is Cloud Strife, a former Shinra soldier who has switched sides in the conflict between Avalanche and the Shinra Corporation. Complete main missions and help characters you meet with side quests to ultimately confront the legendary adversary, Sephiroth.

You don't need to have played any other Final Fantasy game before getting Remake or Rebirth. In fact, both games are designed to be played independently if you choose. However, you'll get the most out of the experience if you start at the beginning of the trilogy.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released for PlayStation 5.

Grand Theft Auto VI

Releasing in 2025 (not 2024, but we're still hopeful!)

We've been waiting for the official launch of Grand Theft Auto VI for over a decade – and now Rockstar Games has finally revealed the next installment in the GTA series.

With a 90-second trailer, we've been given our first official glimpse into the story of Grand Theft Auto VI. The game features at least two playable protagonists, Jason and Lucia, set in a modern Vice City.

The trailer, set to the tune of Tom Petty's "Love is a Long Road," showcases stunningly beautiful graphics with a style that's significantly more adult-oriented than its predecessors.

As of now, we know that Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release sometime in 2025. But we're so excited about the game, and we're holding out hope that something magical will happen for a 2024 release. That's why we're keeping it on our list for now.

More information about Grand Theft Auto VI is expected in the coming year!

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Hades 2

Releasing in 2024

A preview version of Hades 2 is set to release in 2024. The game is the official sequel to the critically acclaimed 2018 title of the same name.

The Greek theme from the original game remains, but this time Zagreus steps aside to make way for his sister Melinoë. The Titan Cronos has escaped his prison and seeks revenge against the gods of Olympus.

We know very little about the story in Hades 2, but it's guaranteed to be at least as expansive as the original. You don't need to have played Hades to enjoy the sequel, but developer Supergiant Games says there are plenty of references to the first game throughout.

If you haven't already played Hades, we recommend it. It's well-crafted, with an engaging story and a challenging gameplay style throughout. We guarantee you'll enjoy many hours of fun with Hades.

Hades 2 will be released for PC.

Life By You

Releasing on March 5th

"Life By You" is a new life-simulation game that challenges the ever-popular The Sims series from EA Games.

The premise of Life By You is similar to The Sims. You take control of digital avatars and guide them through life. Their fate is entirely in your hands, and you can choose to help or hinder them along the way.

What makes Life By You particularly interesting is that it modernizes the format with greater opportunities to explore the game world. You can use cars, buses, bikes, and many other vehicles across large areas.

The game is moddable by dedicated developers who want to add new, exciting features. You can control your avatars as you wish, have real conversations with them, and even design your own world.

Life By You will be released for PC via platforms like Steam and Epic Games Store.

Little Nightmares 3

Releasing in 2024

It's been over two years since Little Nightmares 2 was released, and we can hardly wait for the third installment in the series. Both predecessors were masterpieces with fantastic graphics and a gripping story that really pulled us into the horror world created by Supermassive Games.

This time around, we leave the previous protagonists Mono and Six for two new characters. The game world has evolved with new environments and enemies. There's also a new, hidden danger lurking in the shadows, reluctant to show itself. Who or what it is remains to be seen.

Little Nightmares 3 is essentially a side-scrolling horror game with puzzle elements that need to be solved. You can't fight; instead, you must sneak around using shadows and objects to hide from the dangers that stalk you.

Little Nightmares 3 will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PS5 / PS4.

Skull and Bones

Releasing on February 16th

Ever wondered what it would be like to roam the open seas and hunt merchant ships as a pirate captain?

In the upcoming "Skull and Bones," that's exactly what you get to do – and you have full control over the entire experience, from customizing your boat's appearance and functionality to choosing your crew.

You have three types of ships to choose from, each with its unique features. Want more protection? Add more protective materials around the boat, but be prepared for it to become more cumbersome and slower. Choose the color, style, flag, and many other details – your boat is truly yours.

In Skull and Bones, the focus is on naval combat and exploration. You can't participate in island raids on foot; you're confined to your ship. In your quest across the seven seas, you'll encounter both AI opponents and other players with the same goal as you: to become the most feared pirate captain ever seen.

Skull and Bones will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl

Releasing on September 5th

It's time to don your protective gear, load your weapon, and sneak out into The Zone once again. You are a "stalker," a hunter tasked with venturing into a desolate and dangerous world in search of supplies from the world above ground.

Your goal is to ascend to the surface from your relatively (but not entirely) safe existence underground, find important items that help your collective survive, and not die. Easier said than done, considering almost everything you encounter wants to kill you once you step outside the blast doors.

Play through the campaign and experience an exciting story, or test your reflexes against other players in multiplayer mode. Use mods to enhance your experience and do everything you can to survive.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Star Wars: Outlaws

Releasing in 2024

Outlaws is perhaps the most anticipated game from the Star Wars universe right now. Ubisoft describes it as the first true "open world" Star Wars game, offering players vast freedom to explore a large and open game world.

Players can visit a variety of famous planets, undertake unique missions for each planet, and explore many cities. Each new location has its own special appearances and rewards. This sounds great, though we've heard similar promises before.

The story revolves around one of the many outlaws in the Star Wars universe. Along with your alien friend Nix, you undertake missions for crime syndicates, using your wits (and your companion) to sneak, fight, and talk your way through.

When not on solid ground, you can use your spacecraft "The Trailblazer" to travel between planets or engage in acrobatic air battles with other vessels. And yes, The Empire is omnipresent, even in the skies.

Star Wars: Outlaws will be released for PC and Xbox Series X/S.

Tekken 8

Releasing on January 26th

With 32 new characters and revamped graphics, Tekken 8 enters the fighting game scene in early 2024. The eighth installment continues the long-standing story of the Mishima and Kazama bloodlines and their bitter feud.

Tekken 8 features a reworked combat system that heightens the intensity of fights and introduces a new arcade mode called "Arcade Quest". This mode is for those who want to build their character in the game and practice the new combat system while learning the basics.

Other updates include the return of old characters like Jun Kazama and more dynamic stages. Now, various parts of the stage can be crashed through, and players can experience extreme events like fires, giant waves, and tornadoes.

Tekken 8 will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered

Releasing on February 14th

For a hefty dose of gaming nostalgia, look no further than Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered. The first three games in the long-running Lara Croft series, released over a three-year period starting in 1996, are now being remastered for the first time.

The studio undertaking this task promises improved graphics and optimized controls for navigating Lara Croft. Players can seamlessly switch between the old and new graphics, similar to how it works in Halo: Anniversary Edition.

All three games come with associated expansions that add extra levels and bonus adventures. Tomb Raider 1 includes "Unfinished Business" with four levels, Tomb Raider 2 has "The Gold Mask" with five bonus levels, and Tomb Raider 3 includes "The Lost Artifact" with six new levels.

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered will be released for PC, PS5 / PS4, and Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Releasing on September 9th

Imagine our disappointment when we learned that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 couldn't be released as planned last December. But 2024 is the year we once again get to step into the role of an Ultramarine.

The game picks up after the events of 2011's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Just like in the first game, we follow Captain Titus and his Ultramarines on their bloody mission. This time, it's endless hordes of Tyranids invading, instead of the warlike Orks.

If Orks are a major threat to any human world, Tyranids are definitely no less challenging to deal with. Expect dazzling graphics for those with newer gaming consoles or powerful computers, plenty of blood, and a fast-paced story from start to finish.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
