We’ve finally been allowed out again and Instagram is awash with BBQs, alfresco, happy hours and trips away. Having spent more than a year (on and off) missing out on our favourite activities and away from our favourite people, we’re all keen to document summer 2021.

With the rise in photo editing apps and the improvement in smartphone cameras, carrying around a heavy DSLR is no longer essential for budding photographers, all be it many still love them. We’ve taken a look at some of the options and best deals available on the site right now, whatever your photographic ambitions.

Hands-free

If your priority is travelling light, getting the very best smartphone camera is key to multi-functional photography fun. According to Digital Camera World magazine, the best smartphone for taking great pics is the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. With an impressive 108MP sensor, this phone has a higher megapixel count than many of the best professional cameras out there. Featuring four rear cameras, this phone combines good flexibility on zoom and aperture with a beautiful display for viewing your images.

Despite only having launched this year, prices vary, so do shop around. On the PriceSpy site tight now, you can snap this up for £785 and it’s ranking as our third most popular mobile phone.

Shake it like a polaroid picture

Nothing says atmosphere like a grainy polaroid, and if physical shareability and immediate gratification is your bag, an instant camera could be a great bet. These make a fun choice for parties, weddings and family gatherings too, allowing everyone to create their own memories and take away a little memento of the day.

Top rated:

The Fujifilm Instax Mini 11 is the most popular instant camera on our site right now with prices starting at £62.99 (including free delivery), from Amazon. Coming in a range of eye-catching colours and with a new selfie mode, this is a stylish and practical choice.

Substance and style:

The Lomography Lomo'Instant Wide not only looks cool. According to Tech Gear Lab, it provides more features than almost any other instant camera on the market. From interchangeable lenses to colour flash filters, the creativity provided is more than backed up by excellent image quality. Prices start at £135.00, so while it’s definitely not a budget choice, it is a great option for more ambitious photographers.

Shoot like the pros

While smartphones can do an awful lot, there’s no doubt that if high-speed action or wildlife photography is your passion, a trusty DSLR is still worth its (rather solid) weight in gold. There are almost unlimited options out there, but our customers are currently favouring the Nikon D850.

Digital Camera World describes it as “the perfect do-it-all DSLR for professional photographers”, but note its price points makes it ideal for ambitious amateurs too. Starting at £1,899 for the body (without lenses), this camera is a premium choice that will see you through many years and photographic opportunities.

We all want to capture our happiest memories on film and the good news is that whatever your skills, ambition or equipment, there are plenty of choices to do just that. Just remember to shop around to get the best deals and ensure the specs of your chosen camera match your photographic goals.
