All news from Apple’s big Far Out event
Apple's Far Out event revealed a line-up of several big launches, with the iPhone 14 phones as the main player. Here's our review of everything that was shown during that evening.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
The two basic models in the new series are the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. The smallest model is the iPhone 14 with a 6.1-inch OLED screen, while the sibling model, the iPhone 14 Plus, has a larger 6.7-inch display.
Both models have a redesigned main and front camera system, support crash detection with an automatic call to emergency services, and support SOS messages via satellite (although only in the US and Canada initially).
Furthermore, both models also include the same Apple A15 Bionic system chip that was introduced with the iPhone 13 series last year. If you want all the advantages of the new A16 Bionic, then the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will suit you.
The price of the iPhone 14 starts at £849 while the iPhone 14 Plus costs from £949.
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
If you want all the latest and greatest that Apple has to offer in a mobile phone, then you should aim for the new iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Here you’ll get a completely new screen with Always-On technology that shows important information even when the screen is not activated. Another novelty is that the cutout on the front of the screen, is now pill-shaped and is an integral part of the notification system in iOS 16.
The heart and brain of the new mobile phones is the Apple A16 Bionic. A completely new system circuit with a greater focus on energy efficiency rather than higher performance. In addition, you’ll get an even better camera system than the smaller sibling models – the main camera now has 48 megapixels!
The price of the iPhone 14 Pro starts at £1,099, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max costs from £1,199.
Apple Watch Series 8
The Apple Watch Series 8 is released with the same large screen as the Watch Series 7, new watch faces and more health features. It gets a new temperature sensor, crash detection and a new power saving mode that helps you get extra battery time out of your smartwatch, amongst other things.
The Apple Watch Series 8 costs from £419
Apple Watch SE
The new Apple Watch SE is a new and more affordable smartwatch for those who want the benefits of a smartwatch, but don't need the extra features that the Watch Series 8 offers. A great option for, for example, children.
The Apple Watch SE price starts at £259.
Apple Watch Ultra
The Apple Watch Ultra is the smartwatch for those who want the best that Apple has to offer today. Here you’ll get a titanium housing, up to 60 hours of battery life, extra speakers and a brand-new bracelet for really tough conditions. The watch also has extra buttons, a siren and works with gloves.
The Apple Watch Ultra price starts at £849.
AirPods Pro 2
The AirPods Pro 2 are finally released with a completely new audio circuit, better sound quality and more powerful noise reduction. The headphones support spatial audio, have a better fit for small ears with XS cushions, and longer battery life - now up to 6 hours with the headphones and 30 hours in total with the charging case. Additionally, the charging case, and not just the earbuds, finally support the Find app.
The AirPods Pro 2 cost £249.
