Furthermore, the 3rd Gen handles a broader range of audio formats, including FLAC and WAV, and supports more modern video codecs like HEVC/H.265. While both devices rely on the Google Cast standard for streaming, the improved audio-visual support and superior networking capabilities of the 3rd Generation make it the more capable and future-proof choice for modern streaming setups. The older model also lists internal storage, which the 3rd Gen explicitly lacks, although this is generally irrelevant for a pure streaming stick.
