Have a bunch of WD disks earlier and now needed to buy some more external storage, as I shoot a lot of things on trips, but I also shoot timelapses and photos of course. The former have never let me down so I chose to go in the same track.
Seagate has cheaper alternatives (at least now during midweek travel), but reviews showed that many had problems, so I immediately recovered.
To save 200-300 kr on a hard drive and risk losing 4 TB our disaster for my part.
Now I bought 4 pieces in different colors to easily see which one is for photos / movies / drones / timelapses.
Formatted about them directly in the macbook to the correct file format. 3 st went without a problem, but the fourth one stroked a bit and did not really want to. Tried to plug it into the PS4 to see if it could read the disk. It also showed error and could not format. Took the next solution and switched cable, vips so it worked clockwise. So now I have 16 TB to take on trips which hopefully lasts 2-3 weeks. But a RED camera eats storage space as another eats "Mor Annas Gingerbread cookies".
Now, the next step will be to buy a larger NAS to relieve the external after each trip and be able to edit the projects in a smoother way.
EDIT: Now I have five total with me on trips for backup and storage on the field. Have just used these on a month-long trip around Western Papua in jungles, beaches, rainforests and everywhere. Always pack them in waterproof bags and in well-padded compartments in the backpack. Has survived and worked bluntly all the way.
